My intentions as an author have been to raise awareness about issues relevant to child abuse prevention and healing, the effects of PTSD on marriage and family life, and current cultural issues that are influencing family and child development. Related to those intentions, I’m also on the Speakers Bureau for the Rape and Incest National Network (RAINN). My memoir is about my own experiences as an incest survivor and patient in therapy during a period of my life when, while my husband and I were rearing our children, I was (and we were) struggling with my resultant PTSD.
My book has a history of its own. First released by Seal Press in 2009 under the title When the Piano Stops: A Memoir of Healing from Sexual Abuse, in 2010 it was released in the UK by Ebury Press, a division of Random House LTD under the title Never Tell: A True Story of Overcoming a Terrifying Childhood. There, it was on the paperback nonfiction bestseller list of the London Sunday Times for four weeks. In 2014 it was re-released in the US in both E-book and print with the help of Stonesong Digital Services.
